BIOGRAPHY

Mozambican Ildo Nandja is a versatile and progressive bassist and multi-instrumentalist with an ambitiously cross-fusion approaches bent towards contemporary influenced jazz.

 

His major influences are artists such as Anders Jormin, Shai Maestro and John Goldsby who have inspired Ildo’s sound, stage performance and compositional techniques.

 

Ildo's music gained popularity and attention in 2016 in South Africa, and overseas with the release of his debut ‘’Pâz Á Todos’’ which gained wide recognition within the PanAfrican jazz charts.

 

As an activist and peace builder involved in community building, Ildo’s music is an instrument and a medium which expresses awareness about the situation of the world, addressing issues such as unity, justice, equality, calamities, pandemics , gender and social cohesion amongst many more aspects that can contribute to the betterment of world.

 

IIdo uses his African rhythmical abilities and expertise to express advanced harmonic concepts to his compositions. His sound blends PanAfrican rhythms and melodies with Jazz, European and contemporary world music influences. These musical diversities reflect his experiences and the result is a combination of an experimental eclectic sound.

Apart from leading his Jazz Trio, he's a steady fixture within the Rotterdam – Randstad jazz scene and surrounding neighbouring cities. With his solo project “Ildo Nandja Trio” headlined the More Jazz Series 6 festival in 2016, among artists such as Omar Sosa – Cuba, Susanna Stivali – Italy. INjazz Festival, 2018 in Rotterdam, In April 2019 with legendary Jazz pianist Darius Brubeck during the International UKZN jazz Joll. UNISA International Jazz festival headliner along with dutch outfit Artvark (NL). 2020 So What's Next in Eindhoven, and recently with a Live stream at De Doelen with Kay Slice.

 

Ildo graduated with a cum laude master’s degree in jazz  double bass from the Conservatorium Maastricht - Netherlands, and was awarded the highly prestigious Henriette Hustinx prize 2018/2019.

 

2019/2020, He taught double bass at Conservatorium Maastricht. He continues to reside and work in Rotterdam and the all over the Netherlands.
